Our next Networking Drink on February 20th is an excellent time to find out more about PWI, meet Armelle (our President) and other members of the Executive Team and find out what YOU could do to help make PWI (Professional Women International in Brussels) an even bigger and better organisation.

We are especially looking for ladies to help plan and organise our events, be part of our communications team, our membership team and to promote PWI on social media. Volunteering is a great way to learn and practice new skills which can help your professional and personal growth. Many of the skills you learn when volunteering are transferable and this experience can look very good on your CV.

If this sounds like a big commitment we are also looking for articles and interviews for our excellent magazine and Mentors for our Mentoring programme. Even if you only have a couple of spare hours now and again we could use your help. Volunteering is a great way to connect with people and to expand your network.

If you have other skills and would like to volunteer please make yourself known - we also have a couple of positions that are currently 'in development' - and how exciting to be the first person in a new role. This year we are planning to launch a new Newsletter in addition to our quarterly magazine, and we also plan to expand our social media programme.

    When: Tuesday 29 January 2013

What and where: 9.30 am - Press conference at the European Parliament Press Room, and 12.30 pm - Preview of the ONE BILLION RISING dance by MEPs at the Espace Simone Veil (the "Esplanade" between the European Parliament and Place Luxembourg)

Who: Eve Ensler and Members of the European Parliament who performed “The Vagina Monologues” on 6 March 2012 will take part in the press conference: Franziska BRANTNER, Isabelle DURANT, Marielle GALLO, Ana GOMES, Kartika LIOTARD, Ulrike LUNACEK, Sirpa PIETIKÄINEN, Renate WEBER and Cecilia WIKSTRÖM.
Many more MEPs and European Commission officials will join the dance at 12:30pm

Two weeks away from the global day of action One Billion Rising, nine Members of the European Parliament who performed “The Vagina Monologues,” will be joined in Brussels by Eve Ensler, playwright and founder/artistic director of V-Day, at a press conference hosted by Isabelle Durant, Vice President of the European Parliament.
The MEPs will take stock of political progress made since their call to action in March 2012 and call for an end to violence against women and girls in Europe and around the world.
On this occasion, they will call on decision makers and the general public to join them in the “ONE BILLION RISING” campaign and to STRIKE, DANCE and RISE on Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2013, and to demand an end to violence against women and girls.
They will share their plans for 14 February, and how they will be part of this show of women’s collective strength, numbers, and solidarity across borders.
At lunchtime, more MEPs, male and female, will join them at the Esplanade (Espace Simone Veil) to show how they will dance, together with at least 1 billion women and men around the world, on 14 February.
The dance will be video recorded and shared all over the world.

As we experience these challenging times, we can no longer rely on old practices  to take us  forward.  We need to identify more effective and productive ways of working if we are going to move quickly out of this economic position.

Europe needs the involvement of both its men and women: engaging and performing equally in the workplace and in the home. Without this joint and balanced approach it will be impossible to compete and grow with the rest of world.

There can be real benefit for men in realising the part they can play to boost business growth, by supporting women into the work place and their return after becoming parents.

Women need to speak up more assertively to their husbands and families, about their needs and aspirations to work, so that care in the home can be shared more equally.

Many micro businesses are looking to answer the question ‘How can we grow a business and support both parents?’ Those businesses, who take a more creative approach to parenthood: engaging both men and women, will  benefit immensely.

    Date: 8th February 2013
    Venue: EESC Building, Brussels
    Conference Price: € 80
