How Employee’s Frustration Generates Office Conflicts?

Sometimes we expect the “right attitude at work,” displayed by everyone included in the workplace. The attitude most favourable to work together as a team includes shared responsibility and cooperation. How common is this attitude, and what are the usual challenges to it?

We can see that people come into work already having different mental models for expected workplace behaviors. Those mental maps determine our capacity to cooperate, take responsibility for projects and deliver them in any position we might be positioned.

Organizational culture shows individual mental maps when acting together, situated in a context of regulations and environment settings. Having the right mental model allows the right motivation to belong and be able to deliver the assigned workload, and thus succeed in the organization.

This cooperative productive model is highly flexible and requires a global understanding of its dynamics to be maintained at both: the top of productivity together with employee satisfaction.

From this presentation, you will learn:

  • How to identify basic human needs and the impacts of their frustration on group morale.
  • How frustration is expressed through certain conflict behaviors;
  • The high cost of organizational conflicts;
  • Design a basic frame for managing needs satisfaction;
  • How to tell HR and Customer Satisfaction what to look for (and deliver first) in claims and conflicts.

 Our Speaker:  Nora Femenia, Ph.D.

Nora Femenia is an international scholar now teaching at the Labor Center, Florida International University, in Miami, Florida, USA.

Nora has developed a progressive field experience in organizational development; institutional capacity analysis and dispute resolution systems for organizations, both in the U. S. A. and several Latin-American countries.

Besides delivering training for human resource personnel and managers in conflict resolution, she consults using her own dual approach comprising: identification of employee differences; evaluation of the hidden costs of such conflicts, short manager coaching in mediation skills and designing/implementing "in place systems” to manage existing disputes and prevent future ones.

Using the same dual approach based on psychology and conflict resolution theories, she has also designed consensus-building programs for government projects, including whole system needs evaluation, participatory program design, and delivery of capacity-building training programs to different sectors involved.
